Vauxhall Corsa B: Play In Steering?

Hi
I have a Vauxhall Corsa B. 1996 with 125k on the clock, so no suprise there is play in the steering. The steering is NOT power assisted.

The Haynes manual suggests it is possible to overhaul the steering rack, but this is best left to a dealer !

Is there a method of shimming or adjusting the rack to eliminate play ?

Have checked and there is some play in the UJ's on the column. Will get that sorted first and see if I still need a new rack.

Not really a DIY job unless you have a micrometer and a box of shims, and even then it may not be possible depending on where the rack is worn...its much better to go for an exchange rack at a motor factors. Presumably you've checked the track rod ends, etc.
