What you have to do is remove the screws that hold the top panel in place. They're at the back of the machine. Slide the panel backwards. With the machine unplugged (!) reach down to the door machanism and release it by hand by pulling the catch upwards.
It's obviously a weak point on this model. Mine went as well.
