Just to remind everyone in the UK that under the Sale Of Goods Act retailers of goods are liable for a proportion of the cost of repairing things which have a manufacturing fault or fail to last a reasonable time (usually 6 years). If you laptop has gone faulty because of a known defect contact Trading Standards for advice. You have to prove that it is an inherent fault but usually the retailer will be scared by people quoting the Sale of Goods Act. If your machine goes wrong after say 2 years, the retailer will be liable for 4/6ths of the cost of the repair and you 2/6ths. Your contract is with the retailer and not HP. Don't be fobbed off by them saying your machineis out of guarentee either. Write to the highest ranking officvial you can, give him/her hell in the letter and complain that his staff seem unaware of the SOGA. I have found that this has worked a treat with B&Q, Sky TV and others. Wear and tear is not included, it has to be an ingherent fault and with so many HP laptops keeling over I think the retailer will gove in. Contact Trading Standards!

The issue with the DV2000, DV6000, DV9000, and TX1000 laptops happens to be both your fan, video memory, and video card.

If you update your BIOS that will help with the overheating, and update your video card drivers directly from Nvidia for the GO6150 series.

If you do not update these files, you will need to have a BGA reflow service to fix your chipsets to restore your wireless and video. What will happen is you will get no video, all blue lights, and the system will cycle on and off every 1 to 2 minutes.

Get a desktop. More power and less hassle to repair.

I just went through 5 HP laptops before giving up on them. All of them showed problems externally due to assembly and two of them had sound which was off balance to the left hand side. The sound was so bad that to balance it the sound volume sliders for left and right had to be 50% left and 100% right channel. All in all the machines were fast and would have been good value for the money if they had been in operational order but for my money a purchase has to do what it says on the tin, these didn't.

This is, unfortunately a very well known fault with a whole range of HP laptops. In the UK we are gathering information as to how widespread this is, and will eventually be taking legal action as the extent of the problem is unacceptable.

If you have a faulty HP laptop and want to join the fight in getting it fixed free-of-charge, please enter your details into our database and spread the word:

Many thanks for anyone who helps out with this cause.

There's a video on YouTube where a guy reheats the motherboard and particularly the video card with a heat gun to essentially resolder the video card. Not sure if this will work without damaging it but. . . Also, on ebay there is laptoponcall. They say they can fix it for about $50 plus shipping. I guess they just resolder it. Many of the laptops (all with intel cpus right now) are not covered under the express limited warranty by HP. That ain't right. All with the faulty nVidia graphics cards should be fixed gratis.

Looks like that around 90% of the HP Dv2000 Pavilion Series laptops have a faulty Nvidia GForce Go 200 video adapter, where it overheats and finally gives out the 3 beep code during boot up. I have the Dv2000 model 2135ea and that has gone the same way, and unfortunately for me it does not come under the extended warranty that HP has put out, so now I have to basically rebuild the ******** myself which of cause will be cheaper than having to buy a new one. Anyway some you win and some you lose, I come in the latter part and I think so do many other people. And yes you will need a new motherboard or the video card will be changed over to a more stable one. Everybody´s a loser on this one.

i cant imagine your monitor is the problem? can you actually hear windows start if you power up? Its most like a mobo issue, most of the HP DV2000 have know faults, in fact HP extended the warranty. You should contact HP online support to see if your model is covered.
