Mr MPuk...Lousy Transit!!!!?

I have a 51 reg 2L td transit, it keeps breaking down. I have replaced the fuel filter housing and filter as suggested but it keeps doin it. i checked the filter for metal filings, didn't see any. it'll drive fine, then conk out. sometimes for 200 miles, sometimes 20 yards. I have removed the fuel filler cap when it has broke down, nothing hisses but when i remove the fuel line from the tank at the fuel filter, air gushes into the filter (its under a vacuum to me). i then blow down the line into the tank and hear bubbles in the tank, reconnect, bleed and after a few turns it fires and goes again. i have noticed, if i dont remove the fuel line and blow down it and try to bleed it normally, it doesn't do anything. Had it in to the menders explaining everything and they have found faults with the crank sensor (!) and the fuel pump (that would be obvious as it will be a fuel pressure sender and its not getting fuel!!) they want £1200 for a new pump but being an oiil engineer they dont make any sense. I'm sure its either the fuel pickup gauze blocked or a faulty non return valve from the tank. Any ideas anyone? Any help greatly apreciated!!!!!!!

What a bummer
Bet you were crying or pulled all your hair out after all that.
Bet you wont use Redex after all that.

Ok, got the van back with a totally unneeded crank sensor. Popped into ford and saw their transit man, he said take the tank off too.Took the tank off this afternoon, took the big top off and low and behold, there it was. The cap seal of my redex bottle!!! Funnilly enough, its the same size as the pick up pipe gauze, it couldn't have fitted any better if it tried. Tank was clean as a whistle apart from that. Problem solved. Thanks for all your help on here!

sounds like ur doing everything right so far.extrapolating from u text.neg pressure at line from tank.so fuel pick up ok.no neg pressure at tank so tank ok.so it has to be inbetween in the pick up lines.possibly an obstruction acting as a one way valve triggerd by perhaps road conditions,ie big pothole.significant that u can blow down pipe and hear bubbles.but pipe for suck not blow.blowing would in effect clear the line till next time.u need to access tank/pickup/lines.something is wrong in there.tank off time.

Thanks for that steray, i had a feeling it would be something that stupid. Either that or theres some crud in the non return valve. i did attempt to take the tank off yesterday but the bolts are stuck so i put it in the too difficult to do box. Yes, my priming pumps sticks down and i can't do owt with it. i also have a little gauge that goes straight onto the red too. I only bought the unit on tuesday. £147 quid!! Guess my weekends mapped out then....
