hold in the top two buttons (pre wash and quick wash) when the machine is off, then whilst turning the knob one click anti - clockwise to short spin from the off state. All lights come on, then turn knob clockwise to off again. This worked for mine. Actually I learned it from the first answer in this page and I want to thank him/her
