if your unit is a frost free version, you may have to fully defrost the freezer for several days, as it will have iced up quite badly.
the normal defrost cycle may not completly clear the ice build up caused by the door being left open.
a light flashing could be your high tempreture warning.
but you did not say what make etc,you have.
