Mend Craftsman 917.270930 Model Replaced Gear

how to repair starter motor on craftsman model 917.270930?

I replaced a gear on electric starter-motor solenoid. what is easiest way to put "C" clip back on starter shaft?
I used a Snap ring pliers to remove clip. But, it is a little more difficult to repalace.
I would appreciate aany suggestion.

Replace it with an 'E' clip (fit with a pair of pliers), or a snap ring.

If you want to persevere with the 'C' clip, the best way is to fit it in similar way to a piston ring - find something to expand the gap, then force it over the end of the shaft using finger pressure. You wll then be able to slide it down into the groove.
