how to assemble door lock vw polo?

apparently vw door locks within the exterior handle are designed to snap if forced, I have purchased new parts but the haynes manual says it needs to go to a vw garage for assembly, can anyone help me?

As Competent person (rebuilt a dozen engines etc) I thought I could do this. Bought the bits, about £11, broke one of them, gave it to VW main dealer who charged me £25.00 to reassemble, then broke the thing again in putting it back on the car. My advise - take car to garage let them bust the bits!
