Electrolux Rennaissance Cannister...light for bag full will not go off?

I have an Electrolux Renaissance cannister vacuum. Suddenly the roter or the brush portion stopped turning. I changed the bag,filter,took out a mass of stuff but the shut down light that goes on when the bag is full or blocked will not go off and neither will the brush turn. I have tried getting into the base of head of the vacuum but it seems like there must be another mechanism to unlock the whole. Perhaps it is belt that broke but I don’t think so. Is there a way of rebooting the system so the bag light goes off and the brush will do it thing.
I would so appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me. It is 2/1/09 and my apt needs a good clean.
