ryobi chainsaw pcn 4545 oil feed to chain not working?

ryobi pcn 4545: The lubricating oil that is supposed to automatically feed onto the chain has stopped doing so! Can't see any obvious reson why, resevoir is full and no sign of blockages.Any advice greatly appreciated? Regards, Nick

I too have both the pump problem and the sticky chain brake issue.

It's a truly horribly designed machine. To get to the oil pump you have to more or less completely strip the machine down to nuts and bolts.

I replaced the pump but the problem was that a small pin that holds the pump drive in the casing had fallen out.

I got the spares from Shoulders of Shoreham. The aving grace for this chainsaw is that spares are cheap, the pump was about 8 quid.

Unfortunately the chain brake thing happened immediately after the oil pump so am sick and tired of this chainsaw.

Yes, join the club, my machine is the same model, not used much, four years old, in France. Began with the safety brake seizing on slightly, not noticed (perhaps some culpability here?) with the end result being that the plastic housing melted to the extent that the servicer here said it was not worth repairing (or the French equivalent) and took the safety brake off. Then the oil feed stopped. I now have a Stihl 309, brilliant, does what it should and the farmers around here should know! I will try to unblock my oil feed now, though. Thanks for the tip.

I have the same problem it is caused because the oil feed pipe has a sharp bend just as it exits and the bend is very close to the hot exhaust which solidifies the oil. The back pressure also puts a strain on the pump. I have told ryobi of this design fault. Although my machine starts and idles well it 'bogs' down when you pull the trigger. I would not buy another and am sending this one back.

Yep, I have the same model and same problem, also need to replace clutch. Where can I get the proper service manual?

we had the same problem with our pcn 4545 it turned out to be the oil pump, we had another chainsaw that had the brake problem which we never managed to fix so used the pump from that. we are in france so had to do this as ryobi parts are like hens teeth here
