vauxhall combi van 1.7 td year 54 ?

Hi all, I just got this combi van its done 77,000 and is a 54 reg it has an intermittant fault where the accelerator pedel does nothing, the engine just ticks over, what ever i do to the pedel, it happens when driving or from starting from rest

has any one any words of wisdom
