I repaired my Kenmore Gas Dryer (Model 110-8787-8100) after it failed to heat properly most of the times we used it.
Even though the Gas Valve Solenoid Coils were within spec for resistance (ohms within 150 ohms of the 1300 Ohm specs on one coil and on one circuit on the other coil), I concluded that was the problem, because sometimes the coils will show that they are within specs, but still not work properly. They are one of the most likely parts to fail.
**** Be sure to find and use safety advice. Research repair information. You should also have basic knowledge of electricity and gas burners and shutoff valves, etc.
Be sure you turn off the gas valves outside and inside the dryer and unplug the electrical cord. Also make sure you disassemble the dryer correctly. I need to do that in order to replace the coils. Also be sure to remove the lint from everything including the motor. I also inspected and cleaned up the burner, applied belt dressing to the belt that turns the drum, and used heat resistant grease on the axles of the 2 drum support wheels.
If the belt needs replacement, now is a good time to do it. The same goes for the sewn felt material "seal" at the rear of the drum, but i was quoted $50+ to buy it, so I did not.
*** Do not forget to label (match) the electrical connectors you may need to remove. Also, BE SURE to diagram 1. HOW the belt is routed to the motor drive shave, and 2. Exactly HOW the belt idler pulley (for tension) is oriented and placed ON the sheet metal floor and slots. Diagram it before removing the belt and idler pulley.
Last suggestion: Don't get your Significant Other/ Room mate, etc. upset by telling that person to stand outside with a cell or cordless phone when you start up your "repaired dryer". However, have someone check the dryer vent hookup and also the outside vent (before repair and after using) for excess lint.
I used another site for info and parts numbers, but their videos did not work, so I googled it again and found good vids on youtube.
BTW, for those who know me or have heard of me, I did NOT have extra parts left over……. for this repair.
