xd card damaged card reader/ camera and computer won't recognise card ?

Hi,
While trying to transfer imges to lap top my xd card didn't work, the light flashed briefly and then just went dead, a while later i took the card out put it in to my camera and a card error has come up and i don't know what to do.
please help as i have some very important work photos on the card
