03 Nissan Micra 3rd brake light failure?

My wife owns a Micra SX 1240cc first registered in 2003, the window brake light has failed, I have tried change of bulb, but no result. Is this a common fault, or a one off, is there an easy solution, or checking method, without starting to strip the rear door etc.
