Will I lose video on SD card when I transfer/burn to CD?

Instructions on my compac "notebook" 1 yr. old laptop states to insert SDcard and "TRANFER" & follow instructions to burn to CD. I am a computer neophyte and am afraid that I may do something wrong when trying to transfer camera video. The short video is a hunting trip of my husbands and if I lose his hunting video while trying to copy to a CD so we can watch on tv, he will not be a happy camper. I want to copy the video & have on both SD card & the CD. So, will I lose the video on SD card when attempting to transfer/burn to a CD? Thank you
