my ariston dishwaher programme select does not work?

when you select a programme button it does not register with the machine. When you close the door you can here water plashing about inside, and when you open the door the water is still present in the bottom. The dishwasher is an Ariston LST 660 uk.

Close the door and make sure it clicks. Then leave it to run for a while on the selected programme before it broke down. After some time (maybe an hour!) it will start to work again. Chances are you stopped it / opened the door midcycle.
