spin cycle doesn't work?

It goes into spin cycle, but makes a horrible loud sort of high pitched noise and never actually spins. It does this in all the different wash cycles. It is a whirlpool about 6 years old.

matt, it sounds like you have a broken motor coupler (located between the motor and gearcase) this normally causes a weak or no agitation and spin. Simple fix. good luck!!!
