how can this item be repaired?

don't know this model but
if you FEEL CONFIDENT and can see both ends of the cable see what fitting will be required,( may have to solder connections i don't know)
make up your new short cable lead with the CORRECT fitting connections on the ends, and correct size cable,and colour match make a note of the cable connection positions (drawing or digital camera ideal)
proceed to swap cable ends working to the drawing /photo repeat for the other end
