Mend Gas Cooker Not Lit

gas cooker not staying lit?

i need to know the problem with a button on our gas cooker.
i push the knob in to ignite. Cooker ignites but when i let the button go it stops as if the gas stops getting through.
i could cook tea but i'd have to stand with the button in all night which isn't appealing.

Any ideas ??
