Replacing thermal cutout on DC16?

My dc 16 cuts out after 10 secs, have bypassed magnet gadget on circuit board, still the same. The clue is that if you block the suction it will work indefinately

I have four of these units. Both of the units used in my shop have shut down flashing over temperature codes. When in fact I believe COLD has been the root cause of shutdown. Where is/are the temperature limit(s) located. Close to motor I would expect. What am I looking for. Does it require unsoldering motor board?
These are great units. (When they run.)

this indicates filters blocked causing the cutout to kick in
thermal overloads are just bi metallic strip devices that flex apart to prevent excessive current flowing to motor normally they reset on cooling ,hence the 30 min wait
