why is the steamer not working on my iron russell hobbs 14659?

i brought this iron 7 months ago iv lost the receipt and never sent the guarantee card.The iron heats up but the light doesn't come on for the steam,so hence the steamer don,t work.when the steamer did work it use to take quite a while for the steam to come through and then it would just spit and gurgle.can any one help me?
