Epson DX4050 scanner problem?

Hi,
I've just newly installed my DX4050 printer/scanner onto my laptop with windows 7 as it operating system. The printer is working fine but I am unable to scan. I receive the following message:

I was also having this problem with a Canon Pixma MP640 and I also have SMART Notebook software. After I deleted
SMARTDocCamera.ds in the windows\Twain_32 Folder
MP navigator worked and I could scan. Notebook seems to be working OK, but I haven't given it a good test yet.

Hi John,

I'm having the same trouble with a Canon-Scanner (LIDE90). I can't offer help, but are you also running SMART Notebook Software? After installing it the problem appeared...
