my mower starts but cuts out?

my briggs and stratton 450 serie,s starts then cuts out after about 2 seconds, has not been used for 6 months.

It sounds like either a fuel or air starvation. Check that the air filter is clean and also check that the float and needle is clean in the float chamber.
