how can i remove my filter when the bit to turn it has popped off!?

I have a whirlpool a+a 6kg washer, i needed to remove the filter, but what has happened i the black top to unscrew the filter has popped off, i am unable to pop it back in to the filter and am worried that if i use brute force to remove the filter i will ruin seals etc so the machine will leak every time i use it!!!
I know that once tyhe filter is removed i will be able to put the black screw bit back on to it as it is not broke..
