our 5 yr old sony turns black when you first turn it on, then after about 10 min. it flashes to black, pic, black, pic and each time its taking longer and longer, is it going out or can i fix it?

It's the X-Ray detection circuit over-reacting - I have the same problem with my 10 year old 32". Still researching the fix though. It's not a bad tube! Notice it doesn't happen on dark screens? That's because there's less radiation (Lower Voltage). To develop white requires all three guns-a-blazing (RGB). I'm waiting for the schematic and I bet it's a reference voltage too low due to an aging resistor or trim-pot setting shift.

hi it does sound like the tube but it can also be faulty capacitors.if its flashing red green or blue bin it;if not take it for repair
