Synchronous Motors - Hot Water No CH Poterton Neataheat Profile 30e - 80e?

Hi,

Further to my recent (and ongoing since Oct/Nov 2009!!) Answer/Post/update - under title; 'Hot Water But No CH Poterton Neataheat Profile 30e-80e' (in which I also included the more detailed versions of these questions) I would love to know the following;

Has anyone had any experience of Cal-Chem vs Fernox (I have used Fernox in the past, yet the Cal-Chem product seems to cover more bases/uses and appears to be a littl more cost effective)?;

Do Synchronous Motors come with 'End Switches' and is it worth replacing just the motor if it comes with such - as it appears that it is just the 'End Switches' which are faulty (our motor works okay, yet the whole 3 Port Valve is over 20 years old so may be more cost effective to change the whole unit etc. becuase of the intermittent nature of the fault and draining down etc. etc...)?;

Are Gated Pump Valves better than Ball Pump Valves or vice versa (i.e. the isolating/shut off valves which isolate the Pump). I have used ball-valves on other applications with good success, yet some Plumbers have mentioned to me that they would not use ball-valves for the Pump application?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Carefree,

Many thanks for your answer and comments, I have heard this story about Ball Valves - for this application - before, the original Gate Valves are siezed, yet they havent leaked so I shall take that route again - thanks. There is reasonable space for them anyway, so no issues there.

Thanks also for your comments on the End Switches too, I shall purchase a 3 Port Valve complete and the system will be overhauled = peace of mind etc.

I think that I will give the Cal-Chem a go....

Many thanks again, I hope that this little Thread helps others.

Never tried Cal-Chem.

Synchron motors are motors, no end switches.

Always use 'gate' pump valves where possible, ballafix types have a tendency to leak if not turned for a few years, and the space saving they provide is minimal anyway.
And what do you do with the space the save anyway?
