candy aquaviva pumping out ?

having just replaced the heating element, and taken out the pump and filter to clean out the mess, having put the washer on its side. Now the damn thing fills with water and immediately pumps it out without proceeding to the wash part. whats happened ? and can it be fixed, or has the programmer failed?
