My dishwasher trips the fusebox?

Hi. My Hotpoint FDL50 dishwasher is tripping the fuse box circuit during the 1st stage wash cycle. I cancelled the wash cycle and switched off the dishwasher on the on/off button & the dishwasher still tripped the circuit when the door is closed. The water in the appliance is tepid rather than cold. I'm assuming this may be a heating element problem although I don't understand why the fuse box is being tripped when the appliance is switched off on the on/off button and the door closed.
