If Ink has not run out, it means ink overfolw tray is full. This is where ink is dispensed each time you turn it on when it self tests. It is an inbuilt life expectancy of the machine. You can try to take it apart and wash it out or if like canon there is a process of pushing buttons to extend the life of the machine.
