How do I take the lid off a cistern with a twin push button ?

I need to check my cistern as it is not flushing properly. The cistern has a twin push button opperating system.

Normally you can ease the buttons up and remove them. Push one down and ease second button up.

Once removed you will find a retaining screw at the bottom of the button housing, this hold the lid in place.
