cant lock vauxhall tigra?

car would not start, battery flat, as i went to lock the door all i could hear was clicking coming from the petrol flap. (which sounded like a relay making and breaking, this got slower and slower until it stopped all together) now with a new battery i cannot lock the car. it starts and drives ok. many thanks.
