Mend Ford 7740 Working Tractor

Ford 7740 1996 PTO not working?

In short, I stalled my 7740 ford tractor while pulling a mower behind it with the PTO engaged. Both quit, and when starting the tractor up after, the PTO wouldn't engage when I turned the switch on. The recommendation in the book is to disengage the PTO before starting the tractor again. I did not do this and I think I am in trouble. Any advice for me?
