We need to get some more technical...

Your profile should reside in:

C:\Documents and Setings\[your name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\

For most users, it's on the C:\ drive, but may be on another drive.

By default, the ...\Application Data\ folder and all of it's content is NOT displayed. You need to tell Windows to display hiden and system files to proceed.

You can also enter the complete path in the explorer's address bar.

Your bookmarks (or favorites) are in "Bookmarks" (an extention-less file as all other but one files in that folder).
All cookies are aglomerated in "Cookies".
Your personal settings are in "Preferences".

Those files, and all other in that same folder, are openable in Note Pad, but are mostly not human understandable.
You can open them just to see if they are readable.
DON'T try to edit any of them!!!!!
What you can do, is to move those files in another temporary folder. Start Chrome. As none of those files exist, Chrome will be forced to recreate them.
CLOSE Chrome.
Next, COPY the Bookmarks file to restore your bookmarks.

Many sites store your choices, like a prefered language or location, as cookies. MOST cookies are usefull to you, only a few are dubious and NONE should be damageable.
If you want Chrome to remember your choices, you also need to restore the "Cookies" file.

If nothing works:
SAVE the Cookies file.
Try to export your bookmarks.
Exit Chrome.
If it's not possible to export, SAVE the Bookmarks file.
UN-Install Chrome.
RE-install Chrome.
Start Chrome.
If you successfully exported tour bookmarks, re-import them.
CLOSE Chrome.
If you could NOT export your bookmarks: Copy back the Bookmarks file.
Copy back the Cookies file.
Restart Chrome.

You have a "profile" holding your preferences. It's a file on your computer. Apparently, that file got damaged or erased.

Dismiss the message box. If it offers the option to repair your profile, use it.

Otherwise, click the wrench icon just under the close button at the extreme right of the window.
Look down and sellect "Options".

In the Basic options, change any setting and change it back to your preference. Look in all sections and make sure that everything is as you want it.
Very important!
Make sure that AT LEAST ONE setting is changed.
Close the tab and close Chrome.
This will force the recreation of the profile file.
