Mend Renault Primastar Egr Valve Lots

Replaced egr valve but still runs crap?

Hi I have a 04 primastar coughs and splutters and lots of black smoke, unplugged egr valve and ran alot better. Just put new valve in but still having the problem when it's plugged in :-(
Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks
