How do I reattach the throttle linkage in a John Deere LX266?

I have a John Deere LX266 tractor. I recently had to do some repairs on the carburetor and I'm having some difficulty reattaching the push rod from the throttle control linkage to the plastic bushing on the top of the throttle valve pivot. I've replaced the bushing with an OEM part.
