Keep CCleaner with it's default settings for the prefetch.

Spybot should not touch your prefetch data.

DISABLE prefetch cleaning for ALL other products that have this function.

I don't have hitmanpro and adaware-malwarebytes-iobit, so can't help for those.

Just a guess, do you have any maintenance application/utility set to run on schedule like CCleaner or some others...?
Most can also be set to clean on startup.

Those have the ability to automaticaly suppress old prefetch data. Normaly, "old" is something like over 14 days to 1 or 2 months. That threshold can be changed to any value down to a single day.

Check the settings of any such utility. If needed, set them to a much less agressive level.

Sorry - I had no idea that you wanted to build up items in the prefetch folder so you could slow down the starting process - my own inclination would be to remove all entries.

I am the wrong person then to be offering advice - we are at different ends of the spectrum.

If i manage to find the answer you seek I shall be sure to let you know here...

Sorry again...

If your machine appears to do something slowly it's not running slowly - it can't run slowly - it just appears to be going slow.

Slow responses are just a matter of too much going on - programmes running in the background hogging the CPU time - and disk transfers.

The CPU runs like a racing car and by comparison disk transfers like a trundling steam roller. The fewer disk transfers the faster the machine will respond.

Your machine may well be infected with malicious software (Malware) - reporting on what you do. This will slow it down - get rid of it by loadig and using - MalwareBytes (free) or Spybot (also free).

Make friends with Task Manager - you can see what processes are eating up CPU time and making your life a misery.

STOP things happening in your machine unless YOU want them to happen - be in-control.

Loading application software and some stuff you really don't want or even know about -automatically - at start up time.

Read answer #3

I prune my start-up list on a regular basis and reduce the entries to a minimum - I get the prefetch stuff that I want and not what the Operating System thinks I might need.

By doing this I speed up the starting process.

If I want to run Outlook for instance it can be brought into use when I decide - it's either a matter of waiting for everything (prefetch) or waiting for just what you want at the time you want it - no prefetch.

If you remove everything from the start up list it will not harm your machine - if you or the OS needs something from the disk then it will be loaded at the time it's needed.

Consider using Google Chrome as your browser - it's much faster.
