Used to repair irons in the 1960s (Morphy Richards) but taking our Goblin apart has got me stumped. I have removed 2 screws from under the handle pad, 1 from inside the water fill cover and the 1 from the back plate (needed to make a split blade screw driver!). However, the plastic bits still hold together.
The problem is that the front screw securing the sole-plate has worked loose and is rattling round inside.
I too used to repair irons years ago - but have since discovered that they're not made to be repairable these days - to do with safety regulations and not wanting the users to electrocute themselves. The manufacturers are not complaining
