If the journal sizes, (bearing fits and connecting rod fit) on the cranks are the same size, it will work.

Rick, that is exactly want I want to do. Put a Type 0240 crank in a type 0615 engine. Are they internally interchangeable and would there any mechanical or performance problems with doing this? I want to convert a B&S lawn mower engine (0615) to a type 0240 engine and put it on a vac/shredder. They have differrent cranks as far as their output shaftconfigurations but are both are listed for B&S 123K002 engine models. Thanks for your help.

The part numbers for the two crankshafts are different.
Type 0240 uses P/N 694478 Crankshaft, listing for $43.60
Type 0615 uses P/N 691451 Crankshaft, listing for $48.95
I have no reference as to what is difference is between them.

I can answer this question...
Can cranks from Briggs & Stratton 123K02 engines be interchanged?
