My maytag perfoma model PAV2300 wont' stop filling?

It fills with water from the hoses but does not stop filling when it should (depending on the size load selected). I have tried this on all cycles with the same result. When I put it on spin the water drains the way it should.

Check the clear plastic tubing that runs from the water level control switch to the nipple on the outer tub. Mine shook loose from the nearly constant imbalance problems that this model is infamous for. How to do this? Unplug the washer first. (Always a good idea!) Pry up the top lid of the washer, from the front, with a large flat blade screwdriver. The top is held in place by two spring clips located about four inches from each side. Place the screwdriver in the gap between the top and front panel, about six inches from the side and twist the screwdriver stoutly. That side will pop up. Hold that side up while you do the other. You can then open the lid up. If the back of the washer is close to wall then you can lay the lid back against the wall. Otherwise, you will need a buddy to help. The clear tube will be in the back on the left side coming down through a hole in the top panel. Follow the tube down to the aforementioned nipple. Mine was hanging loose. If yours is doing the same, get a decent hose clamp from the hardware store and reattach it. If the hose is still attached on both ends, then the water control valve has a failed diaphragm. You would then have to replace the valve. If you have to replace the valve, remove it (suggest you make a wiring diagram sketch) and take it to the appliance parts store as there are three different kinds of valves for this model. To reassemble, reverse the order of disassembly, press the lid down until it latches and plug the washer back in. Good luck!
