Another possibility is that the solenoid is just fine but that the micro switch which is operated by closing the lid of the washer is not operating as it should. The switch is a safety device so that the spinning stops when the lid is opened. If you can't hear the switch click when the lid is almost closed, then check this switch.

It can be accessed by taking off the short cover plate behind the washer controls. Two screws hold it in place. The switch is on the left hand side while looking at it from the back. Check that the mechanical flat metal spring moves when the lid is raised/lowered. If it is moving, check that it is moving far enough to activate the switch. If it isn't, simply bending the bracket that the switch is attached to may be enough to get it to work again. The other possibility is that the switch itself has failed in which case it will have to be removed and checked.

Probably solenoid that releases the brake and allows the gearbox to spin. I suspect water seal at base of drum leaked and sprayed water over solenoid causing it to burn out or otherwise fail.

Best option is probably to get a spare machine for parts (Refuse Transfer Station, i.e. the tip, almost free) and take it apart, figuring out how it works. These machines are now about 20 years old. Your would be better off to 'upgrade' to a SmartDrive of some type. The design and engineering is totally different - in a different league. Even if you bought brand-new at $600, that's hardly a waste of money considering that it will outlive the 380 in some ways and do a better job as well (though repairs at the ten-year mark get expensive). The SmartDrive has no gearbox, belt, clutch, brake, or solenoid - a lot less to go wrong. Good luck with whateve you do -Alex
