Mend Craftsman 917.256570 Wont Start

craftsman 917.256570 won"t start -nothing?

Zip- no noise, no current displayed on meter, no clicks. Battery was new last year. Put away frustrated last year as clutch would not engage. Turned it off to check mechanics. Seemed ok. Tried to start then & wouldn't. Still won't. any ideas?

fixed this problem! The internet is a wonderful thing :) Weak battery- just not enough juice & replaced starter gear.

Further info: Tried jumping from a good 12v battery- nothing. Tried -ve to this battery connected & +ve direct to starter- arcing when connecting but nothing & still nothing on dash meter :) Help!
