can I use a window a/c the same as a portable one?
I have a window a/c that I used last year, but due to changes in new windows, I now have the roll-out windows, which makes it impossible to place an a/c in, can I use it anyway, if I set it up on a bureau? is there any danger? I can't afford any other a/c's now, and I do have a breathing problem, that's why I need advice ASAP.
of course you will need to catch the water that drains somehow.

A window a.c. unit discharges hot air from one side and cool air from the other .
providing the majority of the hot air goes out the window you will feel a benefit ,however it will only be as good as your seal between hot air side and the window.
you may be better off placing unit in a doorway of a spare room with window open and block off as much of doorway as possible around unit.
