This is what the internet is all about, sharing information. Thank you to all on here who shared their fixes with everyone. I used this site and fixed the Dyson. I also bought a switch from Ebay for 3 Aussie dollars. 3 dollars guys. Thank you.

I seem to have fixed it by just squirting WD40 down around the outside of the switch...the screws had star-shaped heads and despite having a drill piece to fit, I couldn't access them so out of sheer desperation I went mad with the Wd and it worked.

to every one with a dc08 i had the same prob with the switch not staying on bit of wd40 works wonders. you have six screws to get to it. 2 in each wheel one in the top back half near the cable and one behind the filter looks like a little air hole but is a screw a big thanks to the man with the wd40 saved a fortune works fine now

Thanks for all the info, wheels are pretty secure but a little bit of force gets them off, little bit of wd40 did the trick with the switch, saved a pretty penny.
Cheers all

After using my Dyson for about 6 months with sticky tape over the on/off switch to keep the motor running I discovered this web site. How great the information is, I decided to give it a bash and repair the switch myself.
The wheels were no problem to remove i held the flat of of hand over the wheel and gently prised a long screwdriver underneath. I did have a little difficulty removing the screws but that was because i did not have the right tools to do it, in the end i managed to remove them with an alen key. Every thing else was so easy I removed the switch and gave it a good spray with WD40 as stated in one of the answers put it all back together and hey presto, working brilliantly.
Thanks for all the help....

Thanks for this - followed the instructions and sorted the switch with penetrating oil which seems two have disolved/dispersed the dirt which must have been in it. I'll also add that if you get carried away with cleaning it whilst it's dis-assembled like I did, then you want to ensure the motor is oriented perfectly when you put it back in, and also the cord retractor is correctly oriented (use the button position on the casing to help line it up).

Top answer to tabs. Why didn't I do this months ago? Just take a bit of care lining the wheels up first before punching them back on with your fist and give a good firm whack. I think the torx hex bit I used was T-15. (Why did I waste time trying to remove the actuator button - it might seem the logical way to get to the switch underneath but once the cover was off I could see I was wasting my time).

thanks guys. lets keep these Q's & A's alive. I have just fixed my dyson with minimal ease based on your answers.

It is not difficult atall to dismantle the machine. Remove the wheels using a large screwdriver and prising them off gently. there are four screws requiring an allen key. There are also 2 screws behind the door to the washable filter. Once all of these are undone the cover over the electrics/switches/power cable etc will come off. Once exposed, I simply sprayed the switch with WD40 and pressed it in and out a few times to ensure good coverage. Before I actually did all of the screws up when putting it all back together, I did plug the machine in and tested that the switch now worked with the cover back in place. To replace the wheels, put them one at a time, into position and give quick punch with you fist in the middle and they pop back on.

BTW, the Torx screws are T15 - such screwdrivers are quite cheap nowadays and do not damage the screws like a flat screwdriver would/could.

Are you kidding? "Some force required"

You need 2 horses to dismantle the wheels ...

i had a switch problem the dyson would not stay running i.e the switch had to be taped down to keep the power going.i stripped the hoover first pull off the two wheels then remove the four torx screws the back pulls of easily.the problem was the micro switch that the button you press to turn on and of the hoover had worn in the middle i simply super glued a small piece of plastic on top of the micro switch tested it and it worked.all you have to do is align every up to put it back together.a tip remove the cable retraction button by holding in the under clips and pull it out from the top than you can see where the cable reel has to sit in order for the buton to hit the retractor mechanism screw all together than push in the cable retractor button.while you at it clean and wash the two filters .job done

I have just dismantled a DC08 HEPA and found it straight forward. Prise off the two wheels (some force required) then undo the four torx screws hidden behind the wheels. There are two more screws at the back of the casing to remove then the back of the casing comes away easily (no force required!). This exposes the motor, switch and cable retraction wheel.

My advice is DONT open the Dyson D08 animal unless you have the rest of the day to put it together again and have taken photos at every step of the dismantling process. The cable and the spring mechanism are impossibel to reassemble unless you have a PhD in patience and the fingers of a surgeon....my advice is bring it to someone familiar with Dyson repairs.

To dsimantle, you need to remove all the torx head screws (a small flat head drive will do) - Four of these are hidden behind the wheels (two either side), which you can simply pull off with force. Once inside, everything is pretty simple to dismatle/replace (just memorise everything in place first)!

Cheers.
