It sounds like a good idea unless you can source parts on eBay or the like.
Just boughtonemyself last week and struggling to find a manual in hard copy or even electronic form on the internet. If I had one, I'd strip mine down to have a look for you although it might not give the information in there.
I would imagine the motor is like any other electrical motor. No doubt the brushes have worn out.
