Epson RX640 scaner error?

The printer works fine. The scanner stopped working when I closed the lid heavily.
If I take it to the Epson Service Centre they charge more than a new Epson. I know from previous Epsons I've owned and had trouble with.
Is there any way to try to fix it myself?
