My Westwood S1300 starts first time but cuts out after 45 seconds. Have cleaned the air filter, checked spark plug gap and cleaned it,changed fuel completely...anything else I can try?
I had this happen and, in my case, it was caused by the hole in the bottom of the petrol tank which is so small that the slighest bit of dirt in the tank stops the fuel flow. We cleaned the hole, got a new filter for the funnel, and have had no problems since.

You should start by draining the carburettor - check for water dirt. Whilst there I would also check fuel flow, look for blocked filter or tank.

Do you sitill have a spark immediately after it dies? If so, you probably have a drop of water in the float bowl, or a restricted fuel line.
If you DON'T have a spark, firstly change the plug. After that, it's down to a coil failure, or an intermittanlty shorting kill wire/ignition switch.
