Hi,

Just go to www.dyson-online.com and look at their technical advice section. The site is fantastic! Good luck.

Following on from my last post once I removed the switch assembly I marked where the lip on the yellow button sits in the main body of the dyson (ie the part the that the wand is stored in) Then I drilled a hole through big enough to get a screwdriver throught to the lip. If the switch goes again I'll remove the wand and then access the lip via the hole. A third possibility (if you are not worried about the yellow button or are willing to replace it) is to drill a hole in the button itself to get a long shafted T-15 torx bit/screwdriver directly down to the screw. Centre of hole needs to be about 7mm east of centre of tiny (screwdriver) slot on the lhs and 7mm north. Take care to only just go through the yellow button though.

If you can't remove the button as previously suggested (I couldn't) there is a more aggressive way of doing it (the nuclear type option). The housing the yellow button sits in has a grey piece extending down to where the flex exits (in a yellow strain relief shroud). Grey piece is about 15mm wide and 50mm long with a groove on each side. Take a very large flat bladed screwdriver and push it into the groove on the left hand side (with the top of the screwdriver blade about 15mm from the top). As you push the screwdriver in widen the groove by pulling the plastic housing (where the wand is normally located) to the left. As you lever a gap you will see a rectangular opening which the lip on the bottom of yellow button travels up and down in. Opening is about 8mm wide and 12mm high. Push the yellow button on/off a few times to see the lip moving. Keeping the large driver in place take a tack puller (http://www.hancockfabrics.com/jump.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=7122 for pic only) push into the rectangular opening and push the lip in then lift the lip upwards (helps to pull the yellow button up at the same time). 3 hands are also useful. Once yellow button is out you'll need a T-15 torx bit/screwdriver to remove the screw which retains the tube the (brown) switch itself is in. Taking photos/making sketch of the layout (as previously suggested) is a good idea from here on. I would only try this way if you can't manage any other way - if you are not careful/lucky you can break bits. With some practice i got this procedure down to 10 secs then when out because I think I need to get out more.

I'll answer this question any way even though charles as found the answer.
What I did was use a small flat headed screw driver and bend the end so it looked like the 'Switch Removal Tool' advertised on www.scrubvac.co.uk.
All I did was slide the screwdriver down the inside of the switch (where the small hole is) then put slight pressure to disengage the small lug on the bottom of the switch cover at the same time lift the screwdriver and switch cover off.
When the cover is off you will see a star headed screw, take that out and lift the switch assemble out.

Good Luck!!
