I have a White Knight 767 Electric Dryer 6kg load capacity. it's stop turning when i come to use it, at first it made like a humming noise and the went off altogether - due to fuse blowing. I have checked everything else and can only deduce that heater element or motor not working ???? any thoughts on what could be wrong???

1. unplug the drier
2. UNscrew the back panels first bit that sticks out (2 screws) then the larger panel (about 8 screws.
3. ONce open you will see the heating coils and above that 2 small circular elements - these are the thermostats.
4. one of the thermostats will have a small hole in the back.
5. find something small like a pin and push into the small hole untill u hear a click.
6. screw alll the panels back on and plug it back in
7. Hey presto the tumble drier works and you have saved yourself a £90 call out + labour charge :)

I would not be so sure! Firstly Hotpoint are very much like the creda driers in the way in which they react to heat or sudden cold air.
I would state my life on it that you have a thermostat problem. Although not unique but very rarely do the elements pack up in all the machines i have repaired probably 3 out of 100 have had element problems. The thermostat is situated either on top the element or the slanted housing above you will see what appears to be two circle things with a screw top and bottom. These are the culprits. Ok dead easy to remove just undo the screws make sure that you keep a note which thermostat comes from where take note for any coloured markings on the body.IF it is two thermostats sitting ontop the slanted housing make sure you replace these as a pair. Buy them off the net don't order from con artist high street shops a bl**dy rip off. Some are charging around 25.00 pounds for a pair you can get these for as little as 8.00 pounds but you gotta dig around.
Ok now here is why they pack up two reasons. Firstly your tumble drier should be checked for any build up of fluff in side as this tops cold air reaching parts which should be kept cool any build up of fluff usually causes overheating.Another reason why thermostats fail is down to the drier being stopped in mid cycle cold air rushing into the drier. Very easy to fix if you have a mechanical mind you can do this very easy. Just make sure the plug is pulled from the mains before doing so.

I guess the heating element has given up, Lyn. To replace it means a complete strip down of your dryer as its situated right at the back of the drum.
