Hi all I have a 1999 Clio auto with the following problem at between 50 and 60 it will drop from 4th to 3rd and the engine management light comes on, if you stop and restart light stays off and car drivers ok this does not happen every time you get to said speed.
a friend has an auto clio that when coming back from gatwick to bromley (30 miles ish) the car started to run very hot. stopped the car and when it had cooled it wouldn't select any forward gears but reverse is fine. any ideas?

Hello you need to have the fault codes read.
It is going into default,this is why the light comes on and it drives in 3rd only.
There are many causes for this problem,ie solenoid,speed sensor,hydraulic fault etc.
