check your filter on bottom right as this will give fault you described

The likely problem is to be the main motor itself - usually they turn one way then the other ok but when a spin is required they seem to give up if its getting on a bit. Unfortunately its only an engineer who will be able to tell you for sure. He may propose a new motor but ask him to check the brushes first - much cheaper.
